Important changes for 2010 Henley Veteran Regatta

In line with FISA, the minimum age has now been reduced to 27

This may happen again this year so, to ensure your entry , we suggest that you enter as early as possible. To give as many competitors as possible an opportunity to compete, we have introduced new changes

  • Single scullers - each category will be restricted to the first 8 entries received
  • No competitor will be permitted to compete in more than two events.
  • Heats and quarter finals will be rowed on Friday 9th July
  • Semi-finals and finals rowed on Saturday 10th July ,although it may be necessary to hold some semi-finals late on the Friday.

General Information Including Information for Overseas Competitors

The Veterans Regatta trailer park in Hillside carpark (above the main regatta site) does not open until Wednesday and the landing stages are only constructed on the Wednesday or sometimes Thursday morning. This will affect Overseas Crews in a number of ways.

You can:

  • Rack boats at UTRC on Tuesday to Thursday evening
  • Boat out of UTRC from Tuesday to Thursday evening. (Boats can be left on trestles on the grass in front of the car park or on the lawn in front of the clubhouse. They are the responsibility of the rowers not UTRC).
  • Use showers, tea, coffee, etc (donations gladly accepted).
  • Ask for the Door Code to the clubhouse.
  • Park at the club until Thursday evening – please do not block any trailers / vans as they may be moved at any time.
  • BUT you must use Hillside car park during the Regatta. Hillside carpark gates will always be left open for access, and you can leave boats on the racks in Remenham Riverside (Rememham Farm area) from Wednesday onwards if you prefer to base yourselves there rather than at UTRC.
  • Remember we need the UTRC car park on racing days for officials, support crews, safety crews and the medical / ambulance.

Do not:

  • Boat out of UTRC on Sunday or Monday before the Regatta as the site is being cleared after Henley Royal Regatta. Boating by arrangement at Henley RC, Reading, Wallingford or Marlow rowing clubs could be available.
  • Deliver trailers to UTRC on Sunday or Monday (keep trailers in HRR car park or elsewhere)
  • Park your trailer on the lawns in front of the car park or near the down stream boat shed. Trailers may be parked at least 20 metres down stream of the boat shed. Tents are erected at UTRC on Thursday afternoon.

If you are borrowing a boat that has been used at HRR, load the boat on to the UTRC trailer in the HRR car park – it will be taken to UTRC on Monday evening. You cannot leave boats in HRR tents on Sunday following racing or on Monday.

No Camping at UTRC
There is no camping allowed at UTRC and no competitors are allowed to stay overnight in the clubhouse – all camping MUST take place in the campsite behind Remenham Church.
River rules

For those new to this Regatta, please note the Berkshire bank of the river (Berks) is the side you are standing on and from which you will boat. The other bank is the Buckinghamshire bank (Bucks).

You must familiarise yourselves with the normal river rules which operate prior to the Regatta and outside of regatta hours on Friday & Saturday.

Steerspersons / coxes must be especially careful below Temple Island (remember that during HVR you must return to the normal (Berks) side of the river below the island during racing so there is a cross over point to look out for.

Steerspersons / coxes should be aware that lone scullers from Leander and Henley RC sometimes ignore the change over times for racing and normal operation. The best advice is to look around a lot more often than you would normally.

Boats are allowed out on the water on Friday morning but must be off the water 30 minutes before racing starts. This also applies for Saturday when you must be off the water by 7.20am.

The Finish is about 3 metres below the floating pontoon in front of the UTRC boathouse.

Boat Hire
UTRC does not hire out boats. Ask at Enquiries for contacts for boat hire.

Following racing on a launch
Following a race on a launch will be at the umpire / launch driver’s discretion.

You may be able to get on a launch to follow a race – go to the Start and find out which launch is following the race.

If you just want a general experience of any race then ask to get on a launch at UTRC.
